Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 will be the next version of the Windows Server operating system from Microsoft. Building on the features and capabilities of the current Windows Server 2008 release version, Windows Server 2008 R2 allows you to create solutions that are easier to plan, deploy, and manage than previous versions of Windows Server.
The R2 beta includes the PowerShell 2.0 management tool, which consists of over 240 new cmdlets out of the box plus development tools for creating new ones. Microsoft is currently working on new GUI management consoles, based on PowerShell.
Microsoft Windows Server now includes Hyper-V. It is a virtualization solution enabling organizations to improve server utilization and reduce costs. Microsoft made it easier to move virtual machines without service disruption.
